Too Much Rain

Around Austin-Sunday July 6th 2025, 13:30. Rain is falling again with 0.5 inches in the last 24 hours and 0.25 more expected in the next 24 hours [Apple®]. Since July 1st the Austin Metro has had about 3 inches of rain but with devastating consequences the hill country W/SW of Austin, Kerr County, has totalled as much as 10 inches-over a short span of time. Parts of the Guadalupe River, which has much limestone, reportedly rose as much as 20 feet in just two hours. Many Holiday/Summer campers and residents along the shores were caught off-guard by the unprecedented surge that followed just after midnight, 1:14 AM Friday July 4th. Dozens of adults and children fell victim and many are still missing as 24/7 rescue and recovery operations continue. NW of Austin received as much as 24 inches July 1st to July 6th. LCRA, Lower Colorado River Authority, managed the storm gates from Lake Buchanan, Lake LBJ, Lake Marble Falls as these basins began filling. Lake Travis gained approximately 20 feet to bring it to 63% full with 26 additional feet in reserve. The flood gates at Manfield Dam appropriately remained closed, although one gate was opened temporarily at the Tom Miller Dam in West Lake Hills. As of 16:30 Monday July 7th, the human toll is "At least 104 people have perished in the #Texas flooding...84 in Kerr, 7 in Travis, 6 in Kendall, 4 in Burnet, 2 in Williamson, 1 in Tom Green County" [Texas Storm Chasers].
