Where did all these new Texans come from?


“The No. 1 source of new Texans in 2020 was from Los Angeles County, California, which accounted for more than 3% of total migration.” In total newcomers from California accounted for only 16% of Texas’ population growth in 2020”. By state relocating to Texas were 16% from California, 7.2% from Florida, 4% from Colorado, 4% from Illinois and 4% from Louisiana.


Here’s the breakdown of departing locales or counties headed to Texas’ 3.05% Los Angeles County CA, 1.81% Maricopa AZ, 1.79% San Diego CA, 1.6% Cook IL, 1.52% Orange County CA, 1.33% Riverside County CA, 1.18% Clark County NV, 0.93% El Paso CO, 0.87% San Bernardino County CA, 0.73% Oklahoma OK, 0.62% Fairfax County VA, 0.08% King County WA, 0.06% Broward CO FL and 0.06% Calcasieu LA.


Most newcomers originating in California came from Southern California not Silicon Valley-Menlo Park, Palo Alto, San Jose, Cupertino.

Where did all these new Austinites come from?


“The vast majority of people who moved to Central Texas last year were already Texans.”


“Nearly 45% of the movement recorded in Williamson County last year was from people who were already residents of that county, and about 20% moved from Travis County.” For Wilco though 21.5% came from states other than California (5%) and Florida (1%).


Travis County data were somewhat similar with the exceptions that California and New York accounted for 10% and 6% respectively.
