Westlake Survives 45-44 Over Host Westwood


Texas High School Basketball-#1 Gavin Paull goes up for a shot that banked in with 2.7 seconds giving Westlake a 45-44 lead and the win.


Westlake struggling against Westwood's larger front line, good defensive pressure and their own cold-free-throw-shooting edged Westwood 45-44 on Westwood's Home Court. Early on, Westwood blocked shots, dominated their offensive boards, and scored readily in the low post. Out of the intermission, Westlake focused more effort on double-teaming the low post and filling the passing lanes. In doing so they outscored Westwood 17-13 in the third quarter and 9-6 in the fourth quarter. Ultimately, Westlake (30-4, 14-2 League) took the lead for good against Westwood (22-11, 9-5 League) on #1 Gavin Paull's banker with only 2.7 seconds remaining (See Above). Westlake applied good defensive pressure leading to Westwood's timeout with 0.8 seconds remaining. Westwoods final pass was intercepted earning Westlake the hard fought playoff win.
