Westlake 89 Akins 18

Texas 6A High School Girls Basketball-Friday evening January 23rd 2026-Akins, 0-7 in District, trekked to West Lake Hills on a rainy and cold evening to face the Westlake Lady Chaparrals, 6-0 in district and 29-0 overall. Akins gave great effort, fought for every point, cheered every made basket and played with pride falling behind early to trail 4-27 after Q1, 9-40 after Q2, 9-72 after Q3 to lose 18-89. If you weren't already aware, Westlake has assembled a formidable starting five typically #14 Peyton Hensle, #0 Molly Frazer, #10 Wynn Thorne, #15 Tamia King and #30 Geralynn Byers-Veal. With the win over Akins Westlake now has the remarkable record of 30-0 overall and 7-0 in District. If you haven't yet, come out and see this amazing group in action. Above #15 Tamia King controls the opening tip. Below see snapshots highlighting all that played. Notable that #0 Molly Frazer and later #22 Natalie Wang left the game with ankle sprains-Frazer came back to the bench in boot and Wang in a wrap.

#10 Wynn Thorne with #14 Peyton Hensle. Wynn Thorne, gave way to subs but still added 12 points

#14 Peyton Hensle, gave way to subs yet had 11 points, five steals and three assists

#25 Bella Northrup

#12 Cayla Vetters

#30 Geralynn Byers-Veal in the first quarter rose up as usual and like other starters gave way to subs

#2 Townsend Hamilton with a layup had five assists

#15 Tamia King, with limited playing time added 13 points.

#21 Ellie Jacobs made the most of her extended playing time to score a game-leading 20 points and ten steals.

#24 Mercy Shannon works the low post. #5 Brooklyn Lee, played point much of the second half in position at the three point line.

#20 Kaitlyn Loving

#11 Grace Shannon for the three

The bench reacts to Grace Shannon's three. It's always a joy when one deep on the bench scores and especially when they make a three.
