Texas 6A Girls Basketball-Visiting Brennan Bears entered the game 15-3 vesus Westlake Chaparrals 18-0 and led most of the game. Score by Quarter: W 9-18, 25-26, 35-38, 52-49. Westlake started off cold and Brennan created turnovers as well. Westlake had their fastbreak working though, often with Wynn Thorne out front allowed them to close 25-26 at the half. Westlake trailed 0-10 at the outset, timeout Westlake. Brennan San Antonio's #22 Sr. Bella Flemings controlled the tip being a close match height-wise with Tamia King. Bella was a "scoring machine”, entered the game averaging 17.4 points/game, and contributed most of the Bear's scoring and controlled the tempo on the floor. Brennan slowed the pace in the second half. Westlake got a key charge call in Brennan's backcourt. Then Molly Frazer adept as always but with few scoring opportunities hit a key left baseline three bringing the score to 48-44 then Wynn Thorne dribbled nearly the length of the court and hit the winning basket on a contested layup 50-46 with 24.8 seconds left. Bela Flemings then hit a three from the right baseline bringing the score to 50-49 with 9.09 seconds left. Westlake struggled to get the ball inbounds and called timeout. After the timeout Brennan fouled Geralynn Veal-Byers for their fourth foul, non-shooting. #14 Peyton Hensle was cast with inbouding the ball but was fouled putting Brennan in the penalty and Hensle swished two in for a 52-49 lead with 5.95 seconds left. Except for a brief stint by Townsend Hamilton, the Westlake starters went the whole game. They didn't come out for shoot-around at the half.
