Key play Viper #40 Sam Brown breaks through the Westlake Defensive Line and then is aided by a block in the back [see image below]. Brown was tackled on the Westlake 3 YD line by #7 Thompson Bennett. This led to the Vipers only TD making the score with 2:58 remaining in the 2nd Quarter, Westlake 14 Vandegrift 10.

#9 Rees Wise for Westlake's 2nd TD for a 14-3 lead with 3:37 left in the 2nd Quarter. It would be Westlake's last scoring as they were shutout 6-0 in the second half but still led with 0.03 seconds remaining in the game 14-13. The Vipers then scored a FG with time running out for a 16-13 win. Westlake ends the season 7-4 overall and 4-2 in District. Vandegrift moves on in the playoffs to face Brandeis (San Antonio) Thursday November 20th. The Vipers, last year's Division II Texas State Champions, were first in district at 7-1 and now are 9-2 overall. Score by Quarter Westlake 7-0, 14-10, 14-13, 14-16.
