Tesla owns 2,500 acres including the factory off of TX130 and remarkably at the ‘Speed of Elon’ the 4,280,000 square foot, $1,100,000,000 plant is ready to go online “roughly a year and a half” after groundbreaking.

This facility along with a new Berlin factory are cited as key to potentially doubling Tesla’s output from 960,000 vehicles in 2021 to 2,000,000 in 2022.

Tesla promised during incentive negotiations to provide 5,000 direct jobs but now indicates 20,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs will be created-as “many suppliers [are] already locating to the region.” Currently “about 350 job openings” are posted on the Tesla website.

The Austin plant reportedly will make the Cybertruck (Now delayed until 2023), Model 3, Model Y SUV and Semi tractor-trailer. “The factory is split into multiple departments, such as general assembly, stamping and casting.” While Tesla intends to make its own batteries it’s unclear if Austin will be involved in that.
