Communication between the two Koreas ended abruptly last June by North Korea after “a failed summit between the two countries” but now “according to the South’s presidential office, the leaders of both countries have agreed to rebuild trust and improve ties.” Reportedly they have exchanged communications in the form of “several personal letters since April.”

This recent agreement opened “inter-Korea communication liaison lines from 10:00 on July 27.” Calls have restarted on a daily basis. The South commented “We’re glad to talk again after a year...we hope this…[brings] good news to all Korean people.” BBC notes that “The two Koreas remain technically at war because the 1950-1953 Korean war ended with an armistice rather than a peace treaty.”
