Texas 6A High School Football-Lake Travis came into the "Battle of the Lakes" hosted by Westlake 7-0 overall and 3-0 in District 26-6A on the play of their leaders; #5 Van Hopping 107.3 Yards/Game rushing, #10 Westin Smith 52 Yards/Game receiving, #14 QB Luke McBride 227 Yards Passing/Game, #0 B. Lott 8 tackles/Game, #1 C. Buck 5.9 tackles/Game. Hopping was unstopple and Smith made key receptions to dominate on offense. On defense LT defensive line and pass coverage stiffled Westlake's offense, shutting down the ground and passing game. LT entered the game with 19 sacks in seven games but sacked #9 QB Rees Wise nine times. LT scored two TDs, missed the second point after and led 13-7 at the half. Westlake scored with 0.37 remaining in the first half on Rees Wise's pass to #88 Braden Riddell (images above and below). Having deferred, Westlake opened the second half but were three and out. Westlake interecepted LT, recovered a fumble in the first half and knocked out Hopping early in the second half but LT then executed the passing game effectively with McBride connecting with Smith repeatedly scoring 18 points-two TDs, one two-point conversion, one point after and a field goal. Westlake scored only a field goal in the second half falling 10-31 to LT on the night of Drew Brees' Jersey retirement and homecoming-posts to follow.

#9 Rees Wise was sacked nine times as LT's defensive line and pass coverage dominated.

Westlake's Sr. defensive lineman Pasquale Maurici #56 celebrates his fumble recovery in the first half. Westlake's interception and fumble recovery in the first half kept them in the game to trail only by 7-13 at the end of the first half.

#88 Braden Riddell Jr. WR moving to the endzone on pass from QB Rees Wise for the only first half TD. See more below.
