Spring Live Oak with Catkins

Around Austin-Spring brings out Catkins in a live oak. According to nola.com catkins seen above are male flowers of the live oak. "Live oaks, like many shade trees, produce separate male and female flowers." The female flowers "eventually turn into acorns, but for that to happen, they have to be pollinated from the male flowers. To accomplish this, the male flowers dump huge quantities of pollen into the air where it will drift in the wind and reach female flowers." #liveoak #spring #catkins
